Friday's prep roundup: Air Academy's Ryan Self hits two late-game shots in boys' basketball win over Sand Creek

Air Academy 48, Sand Creek 47

At Sand Creek: Nico Lunt led all scorers with 18 points, Ryan Self hit two big shots down the stretch and Air Academy held off Sand Creek in Class 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletics Conference action.

It was only the Kadets’ second win in the last 19 games against the Scorpions.

Self’s short jumper with 2:27 left gave the Kadets (8-3, 2-0) the lead for good at 44-43 as he followed that with another outside shot with 40.5 seconds left.

Brock Bendrick added 10 points for Air Academy, which continues to be one of this season’s biggest turnaround stories following a 1-22 record last season.

Kenan Thompson had a team-high 12 points for Sand Creek (2-9, 0-2), which has dropped nine straight following a 2-0 start.

Air Academy trailed 27-21 at halftime before opening the third with a 12-0 run.

Lewis-Palmer 60, Vista Ridge 47

At Vista Ridge: Joel Scott led with 20 points and Carter Kreischer added 11 as the Rangers extended their perfect record in the Class 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletics Conference game.

Ethan Forrester added 10 points for Lewis-Palmer (8-0, 2-0), which held a 27-20 halftime lead.

Micah Hilts led Vista Ridge (6-5, 1-1) with 15 points while teammates Raymon Harper and Tristan Pratt added 14 and 11, respectively. 

Manitou Springs 62, La Junta 52

At La Junta: Cole Sienknecht exploded for 28 points -- including four 3-pointers -- as the Mustangs earned their second win in three games in the Class 3A Tri-Peaks League match.

Manitou Springs (4-4, 1-1) led 16-14 before a 23-14 fourth quarter.

Palmer 69, Hinkley 53

At Palmer: Isaiah Robinson led with 17 points and Darien Meyers had 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Terrors have won four of their last five games.


St. Mary's 40, Lamar 32

At Lamar: Josephine Howery led with 12 points and Seneca Hackley added 10 as the Pirates jumped out to a 22-6 first quarter lead and remained perfect in the TPL.

Catherine Cummings scored all of her nine points on 3-pointers for St. Mary's (7-0, 2-0).

Air Academy 42, Sand Creek 31

At Air Academy: Kylee Blacksten led with 11 points, Mary Parchinski added eight as the Kadets held Sand Creek (5-5, 0-2) to single-digit scoring in the first, second and third quarters of the PPAC game.

Zoe Sims pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and scored seven points for Air Academy (8-1, 2-0).

Lewis-Palmer 58, Vista Ridge 41

At Lewis-Palmer: Arianna Blowe had 16 points and Kaity Hovasse added 14 as the Rangers overcame an early 16-6 deficit against Vista Ridge (6-4, 1-1) in the PPAC game.

Bridget Cassidy chipped in 12 points for Lewis-Palmer (7-2, 2-0), which exploded to a 22-5 fourth quarter.

Widefield 46, Sierra 45

At Widefield: Shynesti Johnson had 12 points and Erika Warner chipped in 11 as the Gladiators overcame a 12-8 first quarter deficit and won their fourth straight in the Class 4A Colorado Springs Metro League game.

Aaliyah Ricketts added nine points for Widefield (6-2, 2-0).

Aubrey Robinson had a game-high 18 points for Sierra (4-4, 0-1), while teammate D'Nae Wilson added 12.

Palmer Ridge 43, Falcon 36

At Palmer Ridge: Eden Bonser hit two three-pointers to finish with 14 points, Mackenzie Siskind added 13 and the Bears (9-4, 2-1) overcame a sluggish start to beat Falcon (0-3, 3-6) in the PPAC game.

Palmer Ridge outscored Falcon 20-13 in the fourth quarter after starting the game off down 17-9.


Crested Butte 5, Rampart 4

At Sertich Ice Center: Tyler Montoya scored two goals but the Rams couldn’t overcome a 3-1 deficit early in the first quarter against Crested Butte (6-0).

Nate Purewal and Cameron Sykes also scored for Rampart (5-5).


Discovery Canyon 58, Woodland Park 18

At Woodland Park: The Thunder's Jett Strickenberger (106), Darian Palacio (113), Patrick Allis (120), Jaden Porreco (126), Jared Turner (132), Dylan Ruane (145), Dustin James and Jack Dewey (195) each won by pins in the dual match.

Pueblo Centennial 41, Coronado 36

At Denver East: Ben Nagel (132), Johnny Lopez (138) , KJ Kearns (145), Zeke Terrazas (152) and Ben Tonnessen (170) each earned pins for the Cougars, who couldn't overcome Pueblo Centennial's heavier weights from 182 pounds and up.

Coronado 36, Prairie View 31

At Denver East: The Cougars got the win after Angel Flores (126), Ben Nagel (132), Jonny Lopez (138) and KJ Kearns (145) each recorded a pin. Prairie View forfeited two matches.

Coronado 41, Cherry Creek 16

At Denver East: Ben Nagel (132), Johnny Lopez (138), KJ Kearns (145) finished with pins to lead the Cougars, who wrapped up the day 2-1 in dual matches.
