Friday's prep roundup: Halverson ends Liberty career with four-TD effort in rout of Cheyenne Mountain

Liberty 49, Cheyenne Mountain 14

At Cheyenne Mountain: Trevor Halverson threw four touchdown passes - three to Ryan O'Connell - to end his senior season in style, leading Liberty (2-8, 2-3 4A Foothills) to a rout of Cheyenne Mountain (5-4, 1-3).

Halverson also connected with Moz Doria, and Jacob Waters added a fumble return for a score to pace the Liberty attack.

Canon City 56, Mitchell 14

At Garry Berry Stadium: Canon City (9-1, 5-0 3A Southern) finished off its first league championship in six years, routing Mitchell (1-9, 0-5) for the Tigers' fifth straight win. For Canon City, ranked No. 4 in the RPI, its only loss came to an undefeated Palmer Ridge squad.

Valor Christian 42, Fountain-Fort Carson 13

At Barickman Stadium: Luke McCaffrey's 46-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter gave Valor Christian (10-0, 5-0 5A Mount Lincoln) the lead for good as the Eagles scored 35 unanswered points to pull away from Fountain-Fort Carson (4-6, 1-4).

Gavin Green tied the game at 7 with a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Eric Donnell tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Noah Gerber to finish the scoring for the Trojans, who entered the game ranked No. 17 in the Ratings Percentage Index, one position out of a playoff spot.

Pueblo West 42, Widefield 30

At C.A. Foster Stadium: Matt Rudd had three touchdown runs to pace Pueblo West (9-1, 4-1 4A Southern) past Widefield (6-4, 2-3) sending the Gladiators to a possible season-ending defeat.

TJ Davis had a touchdown run and added another through the air for Widefield, which was ranked No. 17 in the RPI headed into the game. Only the top 16 teams qualify for the postseason.

Doherty 47, Boulder 0

At Recht Field: Doherty (7-3, 4-1 5A Mount Massive) ended the regular season with a shutout of Boulder (3-7, 2-3) and now has to wait to see if the victory will bump it the necessary three spots to qualify for the playoffs. The Spartans were ranked No. 19 in the RPI prior to the game.

Durango 45, Harrison 0

At Durango: Durango scored 38 second-half points as the Demons (7-3, 4-1 3A South Central) dealt Harrison (8-2, 3-2) its second straight loss after a program-best 8-0 start. The Panthers were No. 10 in the RPI prior to the game. Durango was No. 16.

5A Region 1

At Mountain Vista: No. 24 Liberty (12-12) knocked off No. 36 Boulder in four games before being swept by host and top-ranked Mountain Vista.

4A Region 3

At Holy Family: No. 22 Air Academy (13-12) scored a four-game win over No. 34 Elizabeth, then saw its season end in a four-game setback to No. 3 and regional host Holy Family.

4A Region 4

At Niwot: Canon City (13-12), seeded No. 33, lost in three games to both Niwot and Eagle Valley.

4A Region 6

At D'Evelyn: No. 31 TCA (13-11) saw its season end after a pair of three-game defeats to D'Evelyn and Fort Morgan.

3A Region 2

At Lutheran: No. 35 Florence (15-10) lost in three games to Lutheran and Bayfield.

3A Region 4

At University: No. 21 CSCS (13-12) lost a five-game match to Pagosa Springs, ranked No. 33, before falling to region host and fourth-ranked University in three games.

3A Region 6

At La Jara: No. 31 St. Mary's (12-12) knocked off tournament host and sixth-seeded Centauri to start play, but the Pirates later lost to Platte Valley, which won the regional as the No. 19 seed.

3A Region 12

At Coal Ridge: Manitou Springs (13-11), ranked No. 25, had its season end after dropping a four-gamer to Coal Ridge, followed by a sweep against Middle Park.

2A Region D

At Denver Christian: Calhan (16-9) lost to Denver Christian in four games with a state berth on the line. Earlier, the Bulldogs knocked off Burlington in five games.
