FIRST TEAM

106 Jett Strickenberger, fr., Discovery Canyon: Strickenberger finished his first year of high school competition with a third-place finish in the 4A state tournament. In the semifinal match he suffered a 4-1 loss to the eventual state champion Brendon Garcia of Pueblo County. He was 29-5 this season.

113  Darian Palacio, sr., Discovery Canyon: Palacio wrapped up his high school wrestling career with a fifth-place finish in the 4A state tournament. He defeated Ethan Hays of Roosevelt 10-3 for fifth place. Palacio finished the season 30-12.

120  Patrick Allis, jr., Discovery Canyon: Allis won the 4A 120-pound state title in dramatic fashion by earning points from a penalty and then an escape in the final seconds to defeat Windsor’s Vance VomBaur 5-4. Allis capped off his junior campaign with a 33-3 record.

126  Angel Flores, so., Coronado: Flores was the area's highest 126-pound finisher in 5A with a third place finish at state. A 9-6 semifinal loss sent him to the consolation bracket, in which he topped Fountain-Fort Carson’s Taylor Vasquez with a 6-3 decision for bronze. Flores finished the year 44-8.

132 Jason Hanenberg, sr., Air Academy: Hanenberg earned a state title in the final seconds with a reversal to give him a 2-1 win over Pueblo East’s Aaden Valdez. He is a four-time state placer, and finished his prep career with 151 wins.

138  Mike McFadden, sr., Cheyenne Mountain: McFadden became a state champion after defeating Pueblo County’s Jaxon Garoutte 7-2 in the title match. He is Cheyenne Mountain's first four-time state medalist and finished his prep career with 132 wins.

145  KJ Kearns, jr., Coronado: Kearns lost in the Class 5A semifinals, but bounced back with a pin in 2:07 over Dakota Key of Legacy to claim a third-place finish. He was 45-5 this season and earned a city title at the Colorado Springs Metro Championships.

152  Elijah Valdez, sr., Mesa Ridge: Valdez completed his senior campaign with a near-perfect record and a state title with a 4-2 decision in the state championships. Valdez was also the 152 Colorado Springs Metro champion and completed his senior year 42-1. 

160  Brady Badwound, jr., Air Academy: Badwound made it all the way to the 4A semifinals before he suffered a 10-2 loss to eventual state champion Drake Engelking of Longmont. Badwound placed fifth with a 6-2 decision over Zachary Vannaman of Pine Creek. He wrapped up his season with a 30-8 record.

170  Ben Long, sr., Widefield: Long was one of two area wrestlers to qualify for the 4A state championships at 170 pounds and won his first state tournament match before going 1-1 in the consolation rounds. Long claimed the 170-pound title at the Colorado Springs Metro Championships. He finished with a 30-8 record.

182  Nathan Johns, jr., The Classical Academy: Johns captured the school’s second state title after he defeated defending state champion Josh Flanagan of Valley in a 3-2 decision. A Colorado Springs Metro finalist, he finished the season 34-3 and became the Titans’ first state champion since 2013.

195  Jared Volcic, so., Mesa Ridge: Volcic didn’t let an early state tournament loss deter his run. Volcic fell in the quarterfinals, but climbed back through the consolation rounds to earn a third-place finish with a major decision. Volcic (38-7) also took third at the Metro tournament.

220  Dominick Fini, sr., Mesa Ridge: Fini finished third at the state tournament despite suffering a hip injury in the first round. He claimed an 8-1 victory in the bronze medal match. His toughness carried him to a 40-3 record. He also placed third at the Colorado Springs Metro Championships.

285  Michael True, sr., Mesa Ridge: True proved he was one of the best heavyweights in the area with a Colorado Springs Metro tournament title and a second-place finish at the state championships. True finished with a 34-6 season record.
