Monday's prep roundup: Air Academy routs Rampart in softball

Air Academy 9, Rampart 2

At Rampart: The Pikes Peak region 4A No. 2 Kadets jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning, and then broke the game open with a five-run fourth to finish the regular season on a seven-game winning streak. Air Academy (14-4, 6-1 4A PPAC) finished second in the conference, one game behind Discovery Canyon.

5A No. 3 Rampart (9-9, 7-4 5A Metro) has a big game with Fountain-Fort Carson on Thursday, which could bump the Rams from fourth to second in the conference with a win.

Pueblo West 8, Discovery Canyon 3

At Discovery Canyon: The 4A No. 1 Thunder took a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning, but allowed the Cyclones to tie it in the top of the fourth, and a five-run Pueblo West sixth was the difference.

Sami Edwards had two doubles, and Larissa Lum had the lone RBI for Discovery Canyon (12-6), which committed five errors. The nonconference loss ended a five-game winning streak.

Woodland Park 19, Cheyenne Mountain 11

At Woodland Park: The Panthers erased a 6-3 deficit with a 10-run third inning, and then tacked on six more in the sixth to outslug the Indians.

Freshman Lena Knapp led Woodland Park, going 3 for 5 with five RBIs, and Jenna Bashor drove in three runs. Kelly Marolf pitched four innings for the Panthers (6-10), and drove in two runs.

Cheyenne Mountain (8-9) scored six times in the third inning, and added three more in the fourth, but couldn't keep pace.

Sand Creek 14, Englewood 4

At Sand Creek: After the teams went back-and-forth scoring for the first five innings, Sand Creek ended the game with an eight-run sixth.

Arial Cowan pitched a complete game, giving up no earned runs on five hits and striking out four. The Scorpions (5-13) got a triple and two RBIs from Hannah Williamson, and a double and two RBIs from Kaylea Morgan. Rikky Aprenico, Hailee Mayl and Mary Hernandez each added two RBIs for Sand Creek.

Ponderosa 9, Vista Ridge 2

At Ponderosa: The Mustangs scored in four of the six innings, and the 5A No. 1 Wolves were shut out until scoring twice in the seventh.

Chloe Ewing had a two-RBI double for the lone Vista Ridge runs, but the Wolves (10-8-1) committed eight errors.

Lewis-Palmer 2, Discovery Canyon 1 (OT)

At Discovery Canyon: Lewis-Palmer rebounded from its first 4A PPAC loss of the season to Cheyenne Mountain, grabbing an overtime win to improve to 9-2 and 2-1 in league. The Thunder fall to 5-5 and 0-3 in 4A PPAC play.
