4A Region 1

At Elmwood GC, Pueblo: Led by a sizzling, 5-under-par 65 from senior and defending 4A individual boys' state champion Luke Trujillo, Discovery Canyon on Monday claimed a third consecutive region championship.

In two weeks at Raccoon Creek Golf Course in Littleton, the Thunder will look to defend their 4A team title as well.

The Thunder won the team title by 22 shots over Niwot. Lewis-Palmer, which finished third, qualified a team for the state meet through individual qualifications from seniors Andrew Manney and Christian Holden, along with sophomore Justin Hudson, who won in a playoff hole to nab the final spot.

In addition to Trujillo, teammates Caleb Blackburn (77) and Kaden Ford (79) also had top-10 finishes for Discovery Canyon.

"Winning regionals was one of our goals, and it came to fruition," Thunder coach Mark Liggett said. "Now it's on to the next step. The boys are excited to see what they do and hopefully defend our title."

Also qualifying for state from the Pikes Peak region included Ryan Welsh of Falcon (75), Shane Purkey (78) and Jace Cisneros (85) of Woodland Park and Joseph Stroup (83) from Widefield.
