A roundup of high school sports Monday from Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region:
Doherty 10, Pueblo South 4
At Doherty: Lucas Colvin drove in three runs, and Tony Goodman had two RBIs and pitched five effective innings to lead Doherty (2-4) to its second straight win after a four-game slide to start the season.
It was Pueblo South's first loss in five games.
Goodman allowed three runs, striking out four and gave up seven hits, all singles.
Kayden Washington also knocked in a pair of runs for the Spartans, who scored 10 unanswered runs to take a 10-1 lead through four innings.
Lucas Colvin went 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for Doherty.
La Junta 6, Manitou Springs 5
At La Junta: Pikes Peak 3A and Below No. 1 Manitou Springs (1-1) couldn't hold a one-run lead, surrendering four runs in the fifth inning before a seventh-inning comeback fell just short at La Junta (2-0).
Davyn Adamscheck led the way for the Mustangs, going 2 for 3 with one run batted in and also allowed four runs - two of which were earned - in 21/3 innings of relief.
Manitou Springs led 3-2 after four innings but fell behind 6-3, then rallied for two runs in the seventh.
Calhan 12, Crowley County 5
At Calhan: Charles Sparks went 2 for 3, Jacob Bolduc and Terryn Price had three RBIs apiece, and Calhan (4-0) continued its strong start by taking out Crowley County (1-1).
Eddie Glaser (1-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs, allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out five over six innings.
The Chargers outhit the Bulldogs 11-7 but committed seven errors.
Rampart 5, Vanguard 2
At Rampart: Jamie Smith and Grace Qiu recorded straight-set victories at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, and the No. 3 doubles team of Libby Rea and Taylyn Warth outlasted Vanguard's Irene Sanz and Rachel Leasure 11-9 in a pro-set tiebreaker to decide the third set.
Palmer Ridge 6, Mullen 1
At Palmer Ridge: Keelie Bennett, Kyra Rothwell and Emma Kerr all chalked up victories in singles play, pacing Palmer Ridge to its third dual win in four tries.
Kerr, at No. 3 singles, lost in a second-set tiebreaker but came back to take the tiebreaking pro-set, 10-4, to take the match.
Liberty 2, Lakewood 1
At Lakewood: Liberty (1-3) scored its first victory of the season, breaking a 1-1 tie with the second half's lone goal in a road win at Lakewood (1-4).
Rampart 8, Vista Ridge 0
At District 20 Stadium: Rampart (3-1) scored four goals in each half in a nonleague rout of Vista Ridge (1-2-1).
CHSAA names new commissioner
The Colorado High School Activities Association recently announced the naming of Rhonda Blanford-Green as its next commissioner.
Blanford-Green, who worked at CHSAA as assistant commissioner and associate commissioner from 1996-2012, is replacing Paul Angelico, a Wasson graduate who is retiring at the end of the school year.
She will be introduced to the membership at the upcoming CHSAA legislative council meeting on April 20.
