Highlights from Monday's high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.
At Kissing Camels Golf Course: Kellsey Sample won a card playoff after she and Arielle Keating each shot 3-over-par 74 at the Cougar Classic on Monday.
Sample's 74 helped Palmer Ridge take top team honors, too. The Bears shot 246, 33 strokes over par, to beat Keating's second-place Rampart. The Rams finished at 263. Pine Creek was third at 264.
Isabell Deak took third for Air Academy at 80.
Last week, Sample finished second to Keating at the Kadet Invitational.
On Monday, the tiebreak was the course's No. 1 handicap hole, which was the sixth hole.
Widefield 6, Colorado Springs School 1
At Widefield: Widefield won all six of its matches by sweeps, including all three singles matches.
No. 2 singles Madison Villers and No. 3 singles Victoria Bowen each won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
No. 3 doubles Cheyanne Duk and Alicia Rendon won their match 6-0, 6-2.
Discovery Canyon 7, Liberty 0
At Discovery Canyon: No. 2 singles Sydney Smith and No. 3 singles Paddison Lowe each won their matches 6-0, 6-0, while No. 1 singles Mattie Kuntzelman and No. 1 doubles partners Lizzie McCurdy and Hunter Jones each won 6-1, 6-0 to lead Discovery Canyon past Liberty.
No. 4 doubles Cassandra Bullock and Lauren Barnes battled to a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win for the Thunder.
Eaton 5, St. Mary's 1
At the Grace Center: Eaton (8-4) scored three goals in the second and two in the fourth, while holding Pikes Peak region 3A and below No. 3 St. Mary's (6-6) to one run on four hits.
Eaton, ranked 10th in RPI in 3A, got a complete game from starter Anders Swanbom, who struck out seven.
La Junta 10, TCA 0, 5 innings
At The Classical Academy: Class 3A La Junta (12-1) scored seven runs in the top of the fifth and ended the game after five innings against 4A TCA (4-8) because of the 10-run rule.
Four players drove in at least two runs for the Tigers, ranked third in 3A RPI. TCA is 52nd in 4A.
Holyoke 15, Calhan 7
At Calhan: Calhan (8-4) scored three runs in the bottom of the second to cut Holyoke's lead to one, but the Dragons (13-1) answered four runs in the fourth to pull away for good.
Sophomore Eddie Glaser went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Air Academy 4, Discovery Canyon 0
At Discovery Canyon: Air Academy (5-4, 2-1 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference) scored two goals in each half and shut out Discovery Canyon (5-5-1, 1-2).
The Kadets were coming off a loss to 4A defending state champion Lewis-Palmer.
The win has Air Academy sitting in third place in league, while the Thunder are in sixth.
Lewis-Palmer 18, Pine Creek 7
At Lewis-Palmer: Pikes Peak region No. 1 Lewis-Palmer (8-1, 3-0 5A Jeffco League) led by just one goal after the first quarter, but by halftime the Rangers led Pine Creek (4-6, 0-3) 6-1 and were on their way to their eighth straight win.
The Rangers are one of two teams still unbeaten in Jeffco play. The other is Columbine. The teams don't play each other until May.
Stats were not reported.
