Monday's prep roundup: Sand Creek girls tennis starts year 3-0

Pueblo Central 16, Sand Creek 5

Runyon Field: Pueblo Central scored six runs in the second inning of a nonconference mercy rule win over Sand Creek.

The Scorpions (0-2) scored five runs through the third and fourth innings, but it was not enough to overcome their early deficit.


Castle View 12, Air Academy 6

At Castle View: The Kadets scored five goals during the second quarter of a nonconference game, but Castle View found the back of the net six times in both the second and fourth quarters to earn a decisive win.

Air Academy is 0-2 to start the season.


Grandview 13, Cheyenne Mountain 11

At Legacy Stadium: Cheyenne Mountain’s comeback fell just short in a nonconference game against Grandview in the team’s first loss.

After trailing 8-6 heading into the second half, the Indians scored five goals in the remaining time.


Canon City 2, Pueblo West 2, 2OT

At Pueblo West: Double overtime was not enough to decide a nonconference game between Canon City and Pueblo West.

Both teams notched a pair of goals in the first half, and could not find the back of the net the rest of the way.

Canon City freshman Kyndal West and sophomore Cassidy Heimel scored for the Tigers. Sammi Holt and Lisa Miller earned assists. Jordan Konty had seven saves for Canon City (1-1-1).

Pueblo Central 6, Harrison 0

At Dutch Clark Stadium: Abby Gridley had four goals for the Wildcats as Pueblo Central beat Harrison. The Panthers are 0-2.  

Pueblo East 6, Palmer 0

At Garry Berry: Pueblo East scored three goals in each half of a nonconference win over Palmer.

The Terrors are 0-2.


Discovery Canyon 5, Lewis-Palmer 2

At Discovery Canyon: Mattie Kuntzelman claimed a touch No. 1 singles match win in three sets, while the Thunder swept all four doubles matches to claim a 5-2 win over Lewis-Palmer.

Lewis-Palmer’s Emma Gaydos defeated Discovery Canyon’s Paddison Lowe 6-1, 6-0 in a No. 3 singles match.

Sand Creek 7, Mitchell 0

At Mitchell: Sand Creek swept Mitchell and moved to 3-0 so far this season.

Sand Creek’s No. 2 doubles team of Nina Gonzalez/ Noelle Hernandez and No. 3 doubles duo of Gianna Meyers/ Kyrsten Goodman) earned quick 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Mitchell’s No. 1 doubles team of Kate Burch and Sakae Malcolm put up a fight against Sand Creek’s Katie Anspach and Morgan Bird. Anspach and Bird won 6-2, 6-3.
