Monday's prep roundup: St. Mary's, Palmer Ridge, Rampart and Cheyenne Mountain earn wins in baseball

St. Mary’s 13, Trinidad 3

At St. Mary’s: The Pirates scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put a pin in a shortened 3A Tri-Peaks matchup against Trinidad.

St. Mary’s (3-6, 2-0) struck out seven Trinidad batters.

Palmer Ridge 9, Canon City 4

At Palmer Ridge: Canon City scored four runs in the top of the third inning to tie a nonconference game against Palmer Ridge, but the Bears scored five runs in the remaining three innings to lock in the win.

Gabe Halaby knocked in a pair of runs and Bridger Havens had a two-run home run for Palmer Ridge (5-1).

Zac Hanenberg hit a solo home run for Canon City (5-2) and Andrew Brosh had two RBIs.

Charlie Deeds and JC Watne combined for 11 strikeouts for the Bears, while Canon City’s Seth Six, Kadin Porter and Ben Marushack fanned a combined eight batters.

Rampart 18, Palmer 1

At Rampart: After racking up a comfortable 7-0 lead early, Rampart made a statement in the third, scoring 11 runs for a decisive 5A Colorado Springs Metro win.

Hunter Felts and Austin Brady each hit 3 for 3 and knocked in three runs. Brio Rookey hit 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Michael Bishop and Caden Jones had two RBIs each.

Taylor Zaiger threw a two-hitter for the Rams (3-5, 1-0), striking out 10 batters along the way.

Palmer is 1-6.

Cheyenne Mountain 12, Vista Ridge 2

At Cheyenne Mountain: A 10-run third inning was the deciding factor in Cheyenne Mountain’s 4A/5A Pikes Peak conference win.

Jack Denker hit 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Michael Ellis knocked in a pair of runs, while Cam Buckler, Grant Mondejar, Jason Randall, Bryan Reich and Brad Helton also had an RBI each for a well-rounded Indian effort.

Ellis also got the win on the mound, throwing five innings.

Cheyenne Mountain is 5-1 and 3-0 in league play. Vista Ridge is 1-5 and is still searching for its first PPAC win.
