Palmer 6, Woodland Park 3
At Sertich: Zack Swain scored three goals and added two assists to help Palmer end its 12-game slide and earn its first victory of the season by avenging an earlier loss to Woodland Park.
Swain’s second goal with seven minutes left in the first period gave the Terrors (1-12, 1-10 Highlands) the lead for good at 2-1.
Andrew Rush, Eric Olson and Brandon Herd also scored for Palmer.
Palmer dedicated the game to former three-sport athlete Sam Hesselberg (1993-2010), whose death was determined to have been caused by a head injury while playing varsity hockey for the Terrors during his senior season.
Lou Levy, Alex Houghland and Colton Hudson scored for Woodland Park (1-13, 1-12), which also had a three-assist night from Parker Taranto.
On Jan. 13, Woodland Park beat Palmer, 5-2 for the Panthers’ first-ever win.
Rampart 5, Coronado 4
At Sertich: Tyler Montoya had the hat trick, the last goal and game-winner coming while Rampart was two men down as the Rams (11-5, 9-4 Highlands) won their sixth in a row.
Ian Werk scored three times for Coronado (5-9, 4-9), which rallied from an early two-goal deficit but never led.
TCA 62, Mesa Ridge 57
At TCA: Jered Belcher led four scorers in double digits with 21 points, helping TCA stun Mesa Ridge and end the Grizzlies’ 11-game winning streak.
Josh Frankmore added 12 points, Micah Lamberth had 11 and Jonny Stephens chipped in with 10 for the Titans (10-6, 7-3 4A Colorado Springs Metro League), who built a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and held off a late charge.
With Mesa Ridge (12-5, 9-1) trailing 60-57, Tristan Widic had a chance to tie it with 16 seconds left but his 3-pointer was off the mark.
Falcon 87, Cheyenne Mountain 62
At Cheyenne Mountain: Reece Warren scored 12 of his 23 points during a 22-3 first-quarter run, and Brendan LaRose poured in a game-high 24 points as Falcon rolled past Cheyenne Mountain for the Falcons’ eighth straight victory.
Noah Martinez added 16 points for Falcon (13-4, 6-2 5A/4A Pikes Peak), while Mitchel Ballage added 10.
The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Cheyenne Mountain (9-9, 4-5).
Falcon 53, Cheyenne Mountain 40
At Falcon: Idalias Sampson scored a team-high 15 points, and Falcon used a strong start to overpower Cheyenne Mountain.
Emily Vaszary had 12 points and Ena Keco added 10 for the Falcons (6-11, 2-6 5A/4A Pikes Peak), who led 27-11 at halftime.
Mesa Ridge 64, TCA 43
At Mesa Ridge: Angelina Jackson and Ashley Bowen each poured in 16 points, and Mesa Ridge outscored TCA in all four quarters in a dominating performance that ran the Grizzlies’ winning streak to 12 games.
Serin Dunne added 12 points for the Grizzlies (14-2, 10-0 4A CS Metro), who led 20-12 after the first quarter and 42-27 at halftime.
Liberty hires new coach
Liberty on Monday announced the hiring of Erick Gossage to lead the school's football program.
Gossage, the Lancers’ offensive and defensive line coach the past two years, replaced Marc Sites, who recently resigned after four seasons.
Prior to arriving at Liberty, Gossage was the defensive coordinator at Sand Creek and Palmer and also was an assistant at Coronado and Wasson.
