Palmer 6, Durango 2

At Garry Berry Stadium: The Terrors notched their first win of the year with a nonconference victory over Durango.

Aspen Reed had two goals, and Molly Weeks, Dominique Semadeni, Maddi Scott and Anna VanDyk also found the back of the goal for Palmer. Anabella Sandoval had eight saves for the Terrors (1-7).

"Senior defender Jamie Simons was a powerhouse on defense today," Palmer coach Kelly Hillick said. "A solid brick wall that played fundamental and smart defense. She kept a great attitude throughout the entire game as well as keeping momentum for her team."

Cheyenne Mountain 18, Castle View 10

At Douglas County: Cheyenne Mountain scored 11 goals in the first half of a nonconference win over Castle View, and tacked on seven more in the second half for good measure.

The Indians (6-2) have won five in a row.

BASEBALL

Canon City 16, Sierra 0, 4 innings

At Sierra: Canon City extended its winning streak to four games with a 4A Colorado Metro league rout of Sierra. In their past four wins the Tigers have outscored opponents 58-8.

Seth Newton, Shane Coffey, Seth Six and Andrew Lapp batted in two runs each and seven other Tigers had RBIs. Twelve of Canon City's 15 batters registered a hit against Sierra.

Ben Marushack earned the win on the mound, throwing 40 pitches through three innings and striking out seven.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 3, Salida 2

At Fountain Valley: Ani Love, Emma Hamill and Sofia Mier scored for Fountain Valley in a nonconference win over Salida.

Tilly Rahm had 11 saves as the Danes advance to 4-2 on the year.

Rampart 4, Green Mountain 0

At D-20 Stadium: The Rams registered their third straight shutout in a nonconference win over Green Mountain.

BOYS' LACROSSE

Rocky Mountain 10, Air Academy 9, 2OT

At Air Academy: Regulation and one overtime period were not enough to decide a nonconference clash between Air Academy and Rocky Mountain, but unfortunately for the Kadets, the Lobos found the back of the cage in the second OT for the win.

Air Academy (4-6) eliminated a two-goal deficit in the second half to tie the game.

The loss snapped Air Academy's two-game winning streak.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Cheyenne Mountain Invitational: Pine Creek’s Nick Sherman and Cheyenne Mountain’s Kyle Leach earned two top seeds each after their preliminary races on Friday.

Leach had the best time in the 200 freestyle by nearly four seconds, touching the wall in 1:48.12 in prelims, and the 100 free in 48.18, beating Discovery Canyon’s Tommy Rauchut by a mere 0.08 seconds.

After prelims, Sherman is the top swimmer in the 200 IM (1:57.71) and the 100 butterfly (52.20), beating the field by nearly two seconds in each race.

Rauchut earned the top seed in the 50 free with a time of 22.09, and helped the Thunder’s 400 free relay to a top time of 3:17.20.

His teammate Adam Vogt had to compete in a swim-off to rank the qualifying spots in the 200 free. Vogt and Pueblo County’s Treven Wertz finished their prelim races with the same time time of 1:54.87. In the swim-off, Wertz beat Vogt by 0.64 seconds for the fifth qualifying spot. Vogt will be ranked sixth.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

La Junta 4, Colorado Springs School 3

At La Junta: Colorado Springs School swept the singles matches in Friday’s nonleague clash, receiving wins from Jules Thompson, Kate Griffin and Hina Suzuki, but La Junta claimed all four doubles matches to edge the Kodiaks.

Thompson won her No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1, followed by a similarly dominant performance from Griffin at No. 2 singles, who won her match 6-2, 6-1.

Suzuki battled for her win at No. 3 singles over Cameo Campos, coming back from a set 1 loss to win 7-5, 10-7. The Kodiaks are 2-3.
