Lancer Invitational
At Pine Creek Golf Club: Maxine Choi of Cheyenne Mountain carded a 6-over-par 78 to win top medalist honors for the second time this season, while Palmer, led by second-place finisher Lily Bauer’s 83, took home the team title at the Lancer Invite.
Choi also has two runner-up efforts on the season.
Coronado’s Kate Griffin and Ashlee Sample of Palmer Ridge tied for fourth overall with rounds of 84, while Allison Palmer of Pine Creek shot 85 to round out the top five.
Palmer edged Pine Creek by only three shots in the team competition. Coronado finished just eight strokes off the pace.
BASEBALL
Cheyenne Mountain 6, Lewis-Palmer 5 (8 innings)
At Cheyenne Mountain: Jason Randall’s walkoff home run to lead off the eighth inning boosted Cheyenne Mountain past Lewis-Palmer.
Grant Mondejar pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory for the Indians (10-3, 7-1 4A/5A Pikes Peak). He struck out four and wriggled out a jam in the eighth when the Rangers (8-5, 4-4) put runners on second and third with only one out.
Jason Shuger went 4 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI for Lewis-Palmer, which also got a double and a home run from Christian Holden.
Brandon Reynolds was changed with the loss in relief, allowing one run and two hits over 3 1-3 innings.
Discovery Canyon 10, Falcon 8 (8 innings)
At Discovery Canyon: Bradley King hit a two-run walkoff home run in the eighth to help Discovery Canyon gain a split against District 49 rival Falcon.
The Thunder (6-5, 3-4 4A/5A Pikes Peak) trailed 8-3 heading into the fifth inning, then a two-run homer from Caleb Grotelueschen – one of two on the day – highlighted a four-run rally. Discovery Canyon tied the game at 8 on a passed ball with one out in the seventh.
Fountain-Fort Carson 3, Palmer 0
At Fountain-Fort Carson: Xavier Burns took a tough loss for Palmer following a complete-game effort, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out two.
Alfayad Khan went 2 for 3 to pace the offense for Palmer (3-10, 1-5 5A CS Metro).
Doherty 16, Rampart 10
At Rampart: Henry Butterfield doubled, homered and drove in three runs, and Doherty (5-10, 3-6 5A CS Metro) broke a 10-10 tie with a six-run outburst in the seventh inning in a back-and-forth win over Rampart (5-9, 3-4).
The Spartans, who trailed 7-4 after three innings, then rallied to claim a 10-8 advantage, only to see the Rams score runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game and set the stage for Doherty’s late outburst.
Caden Jones, Austin Brady, Brio Rookey and J.J. Carrington all hit home runs for Rampart.
Palmer Ridge 11, Air Academy 9
At Air Academy: Charlie Deeds went 4 for 4 and finished a four-run rally in the seventh with his third RBI as Palmer Ridge held off Air Academy.
JC Watne added two RBIs and pitched the final two innings for the Bears (10-3, 6-2 4A/5A Pikes Peak).
Kane Daniluk drove in three runs to lead Air Academy (5-8, 5-3).
Vista Ridge 8, Sand Creek 0
At Vista Ridge: Brandon Fehrm allowed just two hits and struck out eight over six innings, and Gabe Schafer had three hits to lead Vista Ridge (4-9, 3-5 4A/5A Pikes Peak) past district rival Sand Creek (2-11, 0-8).
It marked the program’s first shutout since a 7-0 win over Falcon on May 4, 2016.
The Wolves set the tone with a three-run first inning, then after scoring one in the third, broke the game open with three more in the fourth to stretch the advantage to 7-0.
TCA 7, Mesa Ridge 2
At Mesa Ridge: Noah Lasecki tossed a complete-game five-hitter with eight strikeouts and also drove in a pair of runs with a 2-for 3 performance as TCA used a quick start to down Mesa Ridge.
Hayden Cooper also had two RBIs for the Titans (7-7, 4-1 4A CS Metro), who led 5-0 after two innings.
Mesa Ridge (5-7, 2-2) scored both of its runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-2.
Sierra 8, Harrison 7
At Sierra: Brandon Tafoya’s two-run single capped a four-run rally in the seventh inning as Sierra (2-8, 1-4 4A CS Metro) upended district rival Harrison and denied the Panthers (0-13, 0-4) their first victory of the season.
Pine Creek 16, Liberty 1 (5 innings)
At Liberty: Riley Cornelio, Justin Olson and Zac Heisler all homered, and Jay Onken struck out 11 and yielded only two hits as Pine Creek routed Liberty.
The Eagles (11-2, 7-0 5A CS Metro) banged out 19 hits off a pair of Liberty (3-9, 3-3) pitchers.
Calhan 12, Elbert 5
At Calhan: Terryn Price went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, and Calhan broke open a tight game late with a six-run sixth inning to carry the Bulldogs past Elbert.
Calhan (11-3) spotted Elbert a 5-0 lead in the second inning, but three relievers combined to limit the Bulldogs to only one hit over the final 5 1-3 innings.
ECA 12, Ellicott 2 (6 innings)
At ECA: Benjamin DeRuiter struck out 11 batters and also went 3 for 3 from the plate, and ECA scored nine unanswered runs to turn a close game into one shortened by the 10-run rule.
Clay Sanger went 3 for 3 for Ellicott (5-5, 3-4 2A District 8), which scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to get to within 3-2 before the Eagles (9-4, 3-3) responded with a five-run rally followed by four more in the sixth to end the game.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
TCA 8, Widefield 0
At TCA: Trinity Harvey scored three goals, Shaela Leahy added a pair of assists as TCA rolled past Widefield for the Titans’ sixth straight win.
In its five league games, TCA (8-1-2, 5-0 4A CS Metro) has outscored the opposition 43-0.
Discovery Canyon 4, Falcon 1
At D20 Stadium: Maddie Underwood and Mary Roach each had a goal and an assist as Discovery Canyon scored twice in each half to pull away from Falcon.
Falcon (4-6, 1-3 4A/5A Pikes Peak) took a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game, but Underwood tied it for the Thunder (5-6, 1-3) just three minutes later on an assist from Audrey Mahon.
With 15 minutes left before halftime, Roach gave Discovery Canyon the lead for good on a volley off an Underwood cross.
Cheyenne Mountain 2, Air Academy 0
At Cheyenne Mountain: Lisa Long and Emma Hanson each scored goals, and Bella Zanotelli registered seven saves as Cheyenne Mountain (6-4-1, 3-1 4A/5A Pikes Peak) blanked Air Academy (4-4-1, 2-2).
Atlas Prep 7, Trinidad 1
At Atlas Prep: Jesenia Valdez scored five goals and added an assist to power Atlas Prep (7-2, 4-1 3A Region 1) past Trinidad.
Jennifer Dominguez and Daniela Cuevas also had goals for the Gryphons.
Fountain-Fort Carson 3, Palmer 1
At Palmer: Victoria Howard scored all three goals for Fountain-Fort Carson (4-5-2, 1-2 5A CS Metro), which pulled away in the second half following a 1-1 stalemate through the first 40 minutes.
Woodland Park 8, Sierra 0
At Sierra: Samantha Lecky recorded the hat trick, and five of her teammates also scored goals as Woodland Park (4-5-1, 3-1-1 4A CS Metro) blanked Sierra (0-11, 0-6).
James Irwin 2, Lamar 1
At James Irwin: MyAnna Winters scored twice, and Kaylee Scott had seven saves to lead James Irwin (5-6-1, 2-3 3A Region 1) past Lamar.
CSCS 11, Ellicott 0
At CSCS: CSCS (8-0) remained unbeaten after a nonleague shutout of Ellicott, with all scoring taking place in the first half before the game was halted.
St. Mary’s 10, Dolores Huerta Prep 0
At Langoni Field: St. Mary’s (8-2, 5-0 3A Region 1) chalked up its sixth straight win and eighth shutout of the season.
Doherty 3, Coronado 0
At Garry Berry Stadium: Taylor Cosgrove scored two goals and Hallie Apodaca added another as Doherty (2-7, 2-1 5A CS Metro) blanked Coronado.
Kylie Anderson was credited with 18 saves to help keep Coronado (5-7, 1-2) in the game.
Fountain Valley 4, Rye 1
At Fountain Valley: Lisa Heuberger and Eryn Mitchell each scored twice, and Fountain Valley pulled away from Rye with a three-goal second half as the Danes won their third straight.
Tilly Rahm had five saves for Fountain Valley (6-2, 4-1 2A Region 1).
Canon City 10, Mitchell 0
At Gerry Berry Stadium: Cassidy Heimel scored three goals and Macy French added two more as Canon City (7-4-1, 3-2 4A CS Metro) routed Mitchell (1-8, 1-4) in a game stopped 15 minutes into the second half.
Julianna Wimmer, Kaylee Jennings, Sammi Holt, Payton Kline and Skylar Edwards also scored for the Tigers.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Coronado 4, Pine Creek 3
At Pine Creek: Savannah Leifer earned a three-set victory over Angel Wang in No. 1 singles, and Coronado’s No. 3 doubles team of Jillian Meister and Maya Glaser came through in the third set to help the Cougars slip by Pine Creek.
Leifer took the deciding third set, 6-2, while Meister and Glaser regrouped to take third, 6-3.
Chloe Dudden won in straight sets at No. 3 singles for Pine Creek, which also had victorious afternoons from its Nos. 2 and 4 doubles teams.
Falcon 4, Mitchell 3
At Mitchell: A trio of straight-set wins in doubles boosted Falcon past Mitchell.
Schuyler DeHoyos had Falcon’s lone singles victory, a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Briauna Francesconi.
Nova Poe-Streppler and Marlyn Torres paced Mitchell with singles victories. Torres rallied from a set down and ultimately prevailed, 10-7 in a pro-set tiebreaker.
Widefield 4, Canon City 3
At Widefield: Madison Villers and Faith Bower registered straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, to lead Widefield past Canon City.
Lorin Tedesko dominated Victoria Bowen 6-3, 6-0 for Canon City’s lone singles win.
The two schools split doubles victories.
