Gazette Preps 2018 Boys' Track & Field All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

100M dash: Deondre Ritter, sr., Fountain-Fort Carson – The senior ran a 10.71-second race at state to finish .01 off a Class 5A gold medal in the event. Ritter, who’s headed to University of Northern Colorado, closed the meet by helping the Trojans take gold in the 4x400 relay and the team title. His personal best in the 100 is 10.64, according to his milesplit page.

200M dash: Tyrese Van Horne, so., Harrison – Despite his disdain for the cold, the sophomore sprinter took Class 4A gold with a 21.63 in the 200 and also qualified in the 100 and 400, placing ninth and fifth, respectively. He swept the Class 4A sprints at the Colorado Springs Metro League meet.

400M run: Jalen Lyon, sr., Fountain-Fort Carson – Gold in the 400 was one of four first-place finishes for the Trojan senior. His 48.1 400 was the fastest 400 in any classification. He also ran the anchor leg of Fountain-Fort Carson’s 4x400 relay, which capped a state championship.

800M run: Cal Banta, jr., Air Academy – The Kadet junior ran a 1-minute, 54.61-second 800 to finish a little more than a quarter of a second off the winner in the Class 4A state race. The time was good for a personal best, according to his milesplit page. He also placed 10th in the 1,600 for the Kadets.

1600M run: Ryan Moen, sr., The Classical Academy – Moen won one of his two Class 3A gold medals by a narrow margin in the 1,600, finishing in 4:25.72, .03 ahead of second place. The Titan senior also won the 3,200 in 9:38.97, helping TCA finish second in the team standings.

3200M run: Connor McCabe, sr., Rampart – The Rampart senior placed seventh in the Class 5A 3,200 but ran the area’s fastest time in 9:26.91, finishing just ahead of teammate Sadio Fenner (9:30.7). McCabe was also second in the 5A CSML meet earlier in the month.

110M hurdles: Andrew Doctor, sr., Liberty – Doctor followed up his win at the Class 5A CSML meet with his first gold medal at the state meet. He won the league race in 14.68 and took state in 14.35. He also placed 10th in the 300 hurdles.

300M hurdles: Wyatt Wieland, sr., Pine Creek–  The Pine Creek senior was involved in one of the moments at the state meet when he was left to wonder whether he was first or second, as officials reviewed his race. After a couple minutes, it was determined Wieland ran a 38.007, which was deemed to be a tie. It was also a personal best, per milesplit.

Long jump: Brendan Young, jr., Canon City – The Tiger junior took third in the 4A long jump with a leap of 21-10.5 after winning the 4A CSML long jump. He also won the league triple jump and placed third at state for the Tigers, going 45-3.5 at Jefferson County Stadium.

Triple jump: Jequan Hogan, sr., Fountain-Fort Carson – Hogan had higher expectations than a second-place finish in the triple jump, but his 48-1.5 was the area’s best mark at state. He got his gold in the high jump and added a bronze in the long jump to help F-FC to its third state title in four years.

High jump: Raymon Harper, sr., Vista Ridge – The Azusa Pacific signee finished a busy weekend at state by clearing 6-foot-9 in the Class 4A high jump at state, one inch off the winner. Harper opened the weekend with gold medals in the long and triple jump.

Pole vault: Josiah Molascon, sr., Air Academy – Molascon was the class of the 4A pole vault at state, clearing his winning height of 14 feet, 6 inches on his first try, while no other competitor cleared 14. It was also a personal best for the Kadet senior.

Shot put: Zach Hester, sr., Palmer Ridge – The Colorado School of Mines football signee put his strength on display, going 54-1.5 in the shot and placing third in Class 4A with the area’s top throw regardless of classification.

Discus: Juwuan Tate, sr., Fountain-Fort Carson –  While the Trojans scored in bunches in the relays and sprints, Tate made sure F-FC kept pace in the throws, taking the Class 5A discus with a toss of 158-9, more than a foot clear of second place. He was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put at the CSML meet.
