GIRLS' LACROSSE

Pine Creek 11, Rampart 3

At D20 Stadium: Brittney White scored three goals, Julia Anarumo added two, and Pine Creek (10-2, 5-0 Southern League) built an 11-3 halftime lead over Rampart (5-5, 2-2) before deteriorating field conditions following persistent snow and freezing rain led to both teams electing to end the game at that point.

The contest started with snow lightly falling, but that scene changed drastically as the first half played out.

"Conditions weren't ideal, and it gradually got worse," Pine Creek coach Roger Wallace said. "(Rampart coach) Justin (Chidester) and I both felt in the interest of keeping the kids safe, it was best to end the game. I don't think the outcome of the game would have changed."

Incidentally, these same schools played in similar conditions on Nov. 17 when the football programs met in a 4A quarterfinal playoff game at District 20 Stadium, the field becoming a winter wonderland after a burst of snow following halftime.
