GIRLS’ SWIMMING AND DIVING
At Fountain-Fort Carson: Cheyenne Mountain captured the team title with 456 points, thanks to eight top-three finishes. Their win was highlighted by two exciting individual finishes.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Cheyenne Mountain's Erin Bertsch won in 26.55 seconds, just ahead of Fountain Valley's Eliza Rhee, who came in at 26.74. Elsewhere, Cheyenne Mountain's Ashley Bertsch finished in 59.45 in the 100-yard freestyle, edging St. Mary's Grace Arnold and her 59.51.
Discovery Canyon was the runner-up with 348 points, thanks to winning the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Fountain Valley (277), St. Mary's (217) and Pueblo West (186) rounded out the top five.
Noel Clayton won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke for Discovery Canyon, while teammate Ava Giesbrecht captured the 50 butterfly.
St. Mary's freshman Caitlin Cairns also had a standout day, winning the 400 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Retta Smith chipped in by winning the 1-meter diving competition, and the Pirates won the 200 freestyle relay.
Widefield's Vanessa Nuhn won the 500 freestyle in 5:42.62.
Manitou Springs 61, Peyton 27
At Manitou Springs: Cole Sienknecht nailed two 3-pointers to finish with 12 points, and the Mustangs expanded an early 8-3 lead with a 20-4 fourth quarter to put the game away.
Joah Armour and Eli Stephens added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Manitou Springs (8-4), which is enjoying a five-game winning streak.
Rampart 84, Cheyenne Mountain 65
At Cheyenne Mountain: Xavier Johnson had 23 points, and Dawson Carper chipped in 21 as the Rams captured the win by scoring at least 22 points in the first three quarters.
Jack McReynolds added 19 points for Rampart (11-5).
Luke Martin led the Indians (6-8) with 22 points, while teammate Jaedn Harrison added 13.
Widefield 68, TCA 50
At The Classical Academy: Tre Pierre exploded for 22 points and TJ Davis added 17 as the Gladiators came away with a 21-9 fourth quarter in the Class 4A Colorado Springs Metro League game.
Randall Days chipped in 16 points for Widefield (10-4, 5-2 CSML).
TCA (7-6, 4-3) lost for the first time in five games.
Salida 55, James Irwin 48
At Salida: Nathaniel Plaisted and Tavi Mulitauopele scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, as the Jaguars tried to get back in the game after a 26-23 halftime deficit against Salida (7-6, 4-2 3A Tri-Peaks League).
James Irwin (2-10) has lost its last four games.
Calhan 53, Simla 42
At Calhan: The Bulldogs (9-2) jumped to a 10-7 lead and never let up to capture their seventh straight win.
Fountain-Fort Carson 50, Kearney Catholic 46
At Colby, Kan.: Samiyah Worrell and Kiana Jackson each had 11 points as the Trojans survived with a 17-10 third quarter in the Paul Wintz/Tom Bowen Orange and Black tournament.
Fountain-Fort Carson (9-6) held on for the win despite an 18-11 fourth quarter by Kearney Catholic (11-7) of Nebraska.
Liberty 48, Lewis-Palmer 42
At Lewis-Palmer: The duo of Jayda Lyon and Lydia Marshall led the Lancers' offensive charge with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Three others scored for Liberty (11-4), which had only a 34-32 lead before turning in a 15-10 fourth quarter to hold on for its fifth win in six games.
The Rangers (11-4) dropped their second straight loss after boasting a seven-game winning streak.
Salida 72, James Irwin 26
At Salida: Krystina Hagood scored 21 points as the Jaguars (3-8, 2-3 3A TPL) were held to single-digit scoring in all but one quarter.
Widefield 73, TCA 46
At Widefield: Charisse Fairley and Aaliyah Ricketts each had standout performances, finishing with 25 and 24 points, respectively, as the Gladiators broke up a 15-15 tie with a 23-10 second quarter in the 4A CSML game.
Widefield (11-3, 6-1 CSML) has won four in a row, while The Classical Academy (11-3, 5-2) snapped a four-game winning streak.
Harrison 55, Mitchell 26
At Harrison: Destiny Trujillo had 15 points and Katiah Thomas added 10 as the Panthers rolled in the 4A CSML game.
Seven others scored for Harrison (4-9, 2-4 CSML).
Mitchell remains winless at 0-14.
