CROSS COUNTRY    

Pueblo County Cross Country Invite

At Elmwood Golf Course: The Widefield boys cross country team earned a decisive victory at the Pueblo County Cross Country Invite with 77 points Saturday. Fountain-Fort Carson placed second with 82. Palmer and Mesa Ridge placed fourth (95) and fifth (148), respectively.

On the girls side, the Fountain-Fort Carson team placed second as the top area girls team with 93 points. Palmer placed fourth with 139, followed by Widefield with 153.

Widefield’s Cole Munoz cut the tape in the boys race, finishing in 16:19, followed by Canaan Lamberth from The Classical Academy in 16:25. Matthew Roberds of Mesa Ridge was third with a time of 16:46, followed by Ryan Outler (16:52) of Widefield and Richie Roberds (17:09) of Mesa Ridge in fifth and sixth, respectively. Gus McIntyre of Palmer finished in eighth in 17:14 to round out area finishers in the top 10.

Kristen Farmer was the top area finisher for the girls, placing second in 20:25, followed by teammate Emily Hamilton in fifth in 20:48. Mesa Ridge’s Chloe Welch came in seventh in 20:52, followed by Loren Ruckmich of F-FC (8th, 20:55) and Sophia Mena of Widefield (10th, 20:59) to round out the top 10.

FIELD HOCKEY

Colorado Academy 3, Liberty 0

At Colorado Academy: After taking a 1-0 lead at the half Colorado Academy tacked on two more goals in the second half to take down Liberty (2-7).

Cheyenne Mountain 2, Cherry Creek 1

At Cheyenne Mountain: The Indians scored two goals in the second half for a big win over Cherry Creek. Cheyenne Mountain is now 5-3 on the season.

FOOTBALL

Mitchell 22, Ridge View 6

At Garry Berry: After three tough weeks, the Mitchell football team claimed its first win of the season in a 22-6 win over Ridge View. Devin Montoya rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries, while Kaleel Hamilton and Tony Barnes had 59 and 50 rushing yards, respectively. 

Prior to Saturday's afternoon matchup, Mitchell (1-3) had been outscored 144-24. The Marauders begin conference play in Week 6 against Falcon.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Canon City 7, Pueblo County 0

At Canon City: Five Tigers had a hand in a dominant performance over Pueblo County, led by Garrett Walsworth who netted a hat trick for Canon City (4-4). Demetrius and Logan Slater, John Crawford and Kyle Smith each had a goal as the Tiger offense overwhelmed the Hornets.

Lane Abercrombie and Jayden Morgan combined for just four saves in the shutout.

Coronado 3, Pueblo East 1

At Coronado: Hayden Field did the heavy lifting for Coronado, scoring a pair of goals in the first half, then completing the hat trick in the second to lift the Cougars (4-4) over Pueblo East.

Jesus Yepez and Tyler Stone each had assists.

Colorado Academy 3, Fountain Valley 0

At Colorado Academy: The Mustangs blanked Fountain Valley thanks to an early 2-0 lead in the first half. The Danes fall to 2-3-1 on the season.

Jefferson Academy 3, St. Mary’s 0

At Jefferson Academy: The Pirates could not contain Jefferson’s Ian Coen, who netted two goals against St. Mary’s on Saturday to break the Pirates’ six-game winning streak. St. Mary’s falls to 6-2.

Manitou Springs 1, Falcon 1, 2 OT

At Falcon: Manitou Springs and Falcon got off to an early start, trading goals in the first half, but that would be the only scoring for both teams through two overtimes as the Mustangs (6-2-1) and Falcons (2-4-1) had to settle for a draw.

Arrupe Jesuit 3, Vanguard 1

At Vanguard: Roberto Garcia scored twice for the Generals as Arrupe Jesuit claimed a nonconference win over Vanguard. The Coursers fall to 1-6.

SOFTBALL    

Cheyenne Mountain 16, Doherty 0, 4 innings

At Cheyenne Mountain: It took just four innings for Cheyenne Mountain to complete a dominant performance over Doherty thanks to a nine-run third inning.

The Indians (12-3) tossed a two hitter and struck out seven batters. Madison O’Driscol and Kailey O’Connor each had hits for the Spartans (7-9).

D’Evelyn 13, Falcon 3, 5 innings

At Falcon: D’Evelyn used a five-run fifth inning to put the cap on a dominant win over Falcon (4-10), led by Isabella Porreco who had five RBIs.

Falcon had five hits and struck out twice.

Discovery Canyon 14, Pueblo South 4

At Pueblo South: Kayden Rogers had a fine day at the plate to lead the Discovery Canyon softball team to a decisive win. Rogers went 5 for 5 with four RBIs, followed by Amber Rees who had three RBIs. Corah Price struck out five batters for the Thunder (10-3-1).

Palmer Ridge 19, Woodland Park 9, 5 innings

At Woodland Park: Palmer Ridge exploded in the fourth inning, bringing 14 runs across on the way to claiming a big win over Woodland Park. Maya Liester led the way for the Bears (10-4) with four RBIs, while Lizzy Bets and Bella Converse each brought three runs across.

Woodland Park (3-11) started hot, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first, but the Panthers could not keep up with the Bears in later innings.

Rampart went 3-1 at its home volleyball tournament, while Liberty claimed one win with a 2-1 victory over Colorado Springs Christian School. CSCS beat Wheat Ridge 2-0 on the way to a 1-3 record on the day.

At Evangelical Christian Academy: The Eagles swept Front Range Christian with three decisive set wins, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-12, led by Karoline Garwood with seven kills. Evangelical Christian Academy is 3-8.
