Saturday's prep roundup: Palmer Ridge field hockey tops Cheyenne Mountain, advances to state semifinals

At Palmer Ridge: The Bears, the top seed in the state tournament, advanced to the state semifinals at All-City Stadium in Denver with the win over the No. 8 Indians (8-7-1).

Palmer Ridge (14-1-1) scored a goal in each half.

The Bears will play No. 4 Regis Jesuit on Tuesday. Palmer Ridge is seeking its first state championship after finishing as the runner-up in 2012, 2014 and 2016.


Liberty 3, Pueblo West 2

At Liberty: Jordan Valentine led with 15 kills, Katelyn McMoore added 10 kills, and the Lancers survived a tight nonconference battle, winning 25-23, 11-25, 18-25, 25-15, 15-11 to improve to 11-8.

Pueblo suffered just its second loss of the season and dropped to 16-2.

Karina Florek came up with a staggering 20 blocks for the Lancers, who lost the second and third sets before finishing victorious in the last two.

Denver East 3, Rampart 2

At Rampart: After dropping the first set, the Rams came back in the next two but ultimately lost 25-14, 22-25, 13-25, 25-19, 15-8 to the Angels in the nonleague matchup.

Emily Ellis had 10 kills and both Kira Warren and Taylor Sibert contributed with nine kills for Rampart, which dropped to 12-6 overall.

The Angels improved to 12-5.

University 3, Colorado Springs Christian School 0

At University: The Lions lost 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 in the nonconference match and fell to 12-8 overall.

University improved to 15-3.

Buena Vista 3, The Vanguard School 0

At The Vanguard School: The Coursers fell 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 in the 3A Tri-Peaks League match.

Vanguard fell to 6-15 and 2-8, while Buena Vista improved to 15-2 and 12-0.
