The Classical Academy alumnus Daniel Carlson has been named a 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee for his community service.

Carlson, who will be a senior at Auburn this upcoming season, was nominated for the national award for visiting local children's hospitals and serving as a mentor to in-need youth from Auburn's Best Buddies program; taking missions to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic; and helping fill backpacks for A-team Ministries' End Child Hunger program, according to a press release.

Last season, Carlson made 28 of 32 field goal attempts for the Tigers, including a 53-yarder. He was a perfect 44 of 44 on point-after-touchdowns.

Carlson will be joined by younger brother Anders in the fall. Anders Carlson signed with Auburn over the winter.

He is one of 146 nominees for the award. He graduated in 2013 from TCA.

Daniel Carlson is a two-time finalist for the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation's best college place-kicker.

CSU-Pueblo's Zach Boyd, a Fort Lupton grad, is also up for the award.
