Boys' Basketball

Friday

Falcon at Lewis-Palmer 7 p.m.

With a league record of 7-2, Falcon is second in the Pikes Peak Basketball League, sandwiched between District 38 schools Lewis-Palmer at 7-1 and Palmer Ridge at 5-3.

The Falcons beat the Bears at home Wednesday and head to Monument Friday to take on the Rangers.

Lewis-Palmer was the last team to beat Falcon and the team has won eight straight games heading into the Wednesday matchup with Palmer Ridge. The Rangers responded to their first two losses on the year, consecutive defeats to Liberty and against the rival Bears, with three straight wins at Erie, against Sand Creek and over Vista Ridge. Friday's contest is huge for both teams.

The Rangers are led in scoring by juniors Joel Scott, who averages 18.7 points, and Matthew Ragsdale who scores 15.9.

Seniors Reece Warren (18.3), Brendan Larose (15.8) and Noah Martinez (13.3) lead Falcon.

Tuesday

The Vanguard School at Manitou Springs 7 p.m.

Vanguard's boys' basketball team hasn't lost a game since Dec. 12. The Coursers are 14-1 and have a conference battle at Manitou Springs on Tuesday. The Mustangs are 9-5 and are two games behind the Coursers in the Tri-Peaks League.

The Vanguard School is "warming up" with a heavyweight nonconference bout at undefeated Crowley County Friday. Junior Seth Fuqua leads The Vanguard School with a whopping 26.6 ppg. The Mustangs have a special player themselves with senior Cole Sienknecht averaging 22.7.

Girls' Basketball

Thursday

Pine Creek at Doherty 7 p.m.

Doherty is three games ahead of both Liberty and Pine Creek in the Girls 5A Colorado Springs Metro League standings. The Spartans host the Eagles Thursday. Pine Creek sits at an even 9-9 overall record buoyed by five wins in the past seven games, following a four-game losing streak. The Spartans by contrast are riding an 11-game win streak, dating back to Dec. 19. The Eagles are led by senior Bri Bailey with 11.1 ppg, freshman Jordyn Gutierrez (9.3) and senior Kate Ogrodny (8.9). Junior Brionna McBride leads Doherty with 14.8 ppg.

Ice Hockey

Tuesday

Rampart vs. Pueblo County 8:30 p.m., Sertich

Rampart plays the second of a crucial two-game stretch against Pueblo County on Tuesday. Before that, the Rams take the ice against Crested Butte Saturday. The games matter because Rampart is just two games behind Pueblo County and is tied in games lost with Crested Butte. The Rams have 81 goals for and 59 goals against to Pueblo County's 93 goals scored to 32 goals against.

Friday

Rocky Ford at Mesa Ridge 6:30 p.m.

Rocky Ford, the No. 1-ranked 2A team in Colorado wrestling according to On The Mat, travels to Colorado Springs to take on the No. 5-ranked team in 4A in the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies. The dual meet should feature a slew of ranked wrestlers including Rocky Ford's Michael Maldonado, Joziah Maestas, Diego Reyes and heavyweight Greg Garcia as well as Mesa Ridge's Dominick Fini, Elijah Valdez and heavyweight Michael True.
