It sure feels like a Rivalry Week kind of week.

In addition to inter-classification programs Pine Creek and Fountain-Fort Carson reviving their rivalry in the regular season, a few other teams around the region are taking on familiar foes.

The Battle of Monument Hill resumes, this time with Palmer Ridge and Lewis-Palmer in the same Class. Discovery East will get yet another regular-season shot at Pueblo East, probably with hopes to see the defending 3A champs in the playoffs again.

Then there's the old District 11 rivalry that is Doherty and Palmer.

With that, let's look a bit closer at these bitter feuds.

Palmer Ridge (2-0) vs. Lewis-Palmer (2-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Don Breese Stadium

What to know: Palmer Ridge used a noticeable size advantage (especially in its receivers) to beat Lewis-Palmer last season, 48-14. The Bears retained the General Palmer Cup after winning for the second consecutive season. Palmer Ridge drops down from 4A to join its rival at Class 3A. No surprise, but that hasn't slowed the Bears down one bit, as they've rolled their first two opponents by a combined score of 75-32. Both of those opponents were 4A teams. Not to be outdone, L-P has outscored its opponents 92-35, including a 42-0 shutout of Evergreen, which was ranked No. 7 in last week's Associated Press poll. (L-P's win earned it a No. 8 ranking in this week's poll.) It's going to be interesting to see how many points these teams combine for.

Pueblo East (2-0) vs. Discovery Canyon (2-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: District 20 Stadium

What to know: The regular season hasn't been the problem for Discovery Canyon against East. The playoffs have been the real trouble. Over the past three seasons, the teams have met six times. The Thunder are 2-1 against the two-time defending 3A champs during the regular season. In the playoffs, East is 3-0. Both teams are off to a fantastic start again, with East earning the top rank in this week's AP poll and Discovery Canyon No. 3. East held off Pueblo West last week. The Thunder have rolled easily early in the season, beating opponents by a combined 76-28.

Doherty (1-1) vs. Palmer (0-2)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: At Garry Berry Stadium

What to know: While the Spartans fell to Cherry Creek last week, they hung with the Bruins until the fourth quarter. That performance showed the Spartans can stick with the top 5A teams. Palmer, which moved down to 4A this season, hasn't had the same success. The Terrors have struggled early. After falling late to Wheat Ridge by one score, they got blown out by a Chatfield team that's looking like an early title contender. Palmer gave up 33 points in the second quarter to the Chargers. The Spartans defense looked great last week, especially given how many short-yardage situations it was put in. This rivalry has carried on for years and should have a good crowd turnout at Garry Berry Stadium.
