Thursday's prep roundup: Harrison rallies to football win

Harrison 26, Evergreen 23

At Evergreen: Orlando Westbrook ran for two short touchdowns and threw 13 for 24 for 191 yards to lead the Panthers (3-0) in the nonconference game. Harrison was down 20-6 early in the third quarter before the Panthers rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 26-yard pass from Westbrook to Aumiere Shedrick. Evergreen (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season.


Liberty 6,  Smoky Hill 0

At Stutler Bowl Stadium: Tina Bomberg and Julia Anarumo each had two goals to lift the Lancers (1-5) to their first win of the season. Liberty’s Mackenzie Dudevoir finished with two assists, as Smoky Hill fell to 0-5.


St. Mary’s 4, Sierra 3 (OT)

At Sierra: Dom Hartman scored two goals for the Pirates (5-1), including the game-winner on a free kick in overtime. Connor Timmins added two scores in his team’s second extra-time win this week.

Diego Velasco scored all three goals for the Stallions, who dropped to 2-2 in nonconference action.

St. Mary’s was ahead 2-0 early in the second half before Sierra staged a comeback, tying the game twice before the end of regulation.

“We hope to be playing soccer in the playoffs,” St. Mary’s coach Gregg Braha said. “We hope that this will come back and help to play better in overtime."

Cheyenne Mountain 6, Doherty 1

At Cheyenne Mountain: Noah Grage scored two goals and four other Indians netted a goal apiece in the nonconference win. The win lifted Cheyenne Mountain to 4-3 overall, while Doherty dropped to 2-4-1.

Liberty 3, Columbine 0

At Columbine: Caleb Norwood had a goal and assist, and Carson Stevens and Brandon Shaughnessy chipped in with a score apiece to lead the Lancers (3-3-1) in the nonconference game. Columbine fell to 1-6.

Rampart 4, Palmer Ridge 3

At Palmer Ridge: Jack Mcreynolds scored three goals, and David Peters added another to lift the Rams (5-2) over the Bears (2-3) in the nonconference matchup. Rampart overcame a 2-1 deficit to score three goals in the second half.


Rampart 15, Palmer 0

At Rampart: Kate Frederick was 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Abby Konkel chipped in three RBIs and the Rams (9-3, 6-1) jumped out to a 9-0 lead to beat the Terrors (2-12, 0-7) in four innings in the 5A Colorado Springs Metro League game. Rampart added six more runs in the third, and Shelby Shepherd pitched a complete game with one strikeout.

Vista Ridge 16, Liberty 0

At Liberty:  The Wolves (7-5) showed off their bats in the nonconference game, thanks to both Midori Williams and Kaylin Cruz going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Kaitlyn Lord was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Vista Ridge never looked back against Liberty (3-9) after scoring four runs in the first and three more in the second.

Valor Christian 13, Falcon 2

At Valor Christian: The Falcons (4-7) fell behind 8-1 in the third inning and couldn’t overcome the deficit in the nonconference game.

Fountain-Fort Carson 15, Coronado 9

At Coronado: Alyssa Steele struck out eight batters, and the Trojans (7-7, 5-2) used a two-run second inning to take the lead in the CSML game against the Cougars (2-9, 1-7). F-FC capped off its first win in eight games with seven runs in the fifth. Emily Howling, Shawnee Phillips and Ashley Hopkins each finished with three RBIs.

Pine Creek 7, Doherty 6

At Doherty: Gerily Martinez had a three-RBI double, Brooke Linden had six strikeouts in 5 ⅓ innings and Leah Passafiume came in relief with three strikeouts to put the Eagles at 6-0 in the CSML standings and 7-5 overall. Doherty dropped to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in league play.

The Spartans were ahead 5-1 before Pine Creek rallied with four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the ninth.


Pine Creek 4, Air Academy 3

At Air Academy: No. 1 Bradley Ma and No. 2 Luke Miller both swept their singles matches, and the duos of Christian Sisneros/Michael Barto and Jake Blunt/Porter Moody each won in doubles to boost the Eagles to a 5-1 overall record. In the No. 3 singles match, Air Academy’s Harry Huthoefer edged Pine Creek’s Kyle Ma 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-3.

Doherty 7, Fountain-Fort Carson 0

At Doherty: The Spartans (4-2) swept all their matches, highlighted by singles victories by Caleb Laurence, Kyle Stearns and Dominic Manzo. Wiley Neumeyer/Bryan Becar, PJ Olmsted/Blake Webber and Vicente Tapia/Cameron Weisburg earned doubles wins.


Palmer Ridge 3, Thornton 0

At Palmer Ridge: Freshmen Riley Simpson and Mac Russ had 10 and eight kills, respectively, to lead the 9-1 Bears in the 25,-8, 25-11, 25-13 nonconference victory. It was their fourth win in a row, while Thornton fell to 1-8 this season.
