Highlights from Thursday's high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.
No. 15 Regis Jesuit 4, No. 18 Vista Ridge 3
At Regis Jesuit: No. 18 Vista Ridge (9-7) took No. 15 Regis Jesuit (10-5-1) to the brink and appeared headed for overtime.
But the Raiders scored with 40 seconds left to knock out the Wolves in the first round of the 5A boys' soccer playoffs.
The Raiders play No. 2 Boulder in the second round.
No. 2 Boulder 8, No. 31 Rampart 1
At Boulder: The second seed in the 5A boys' soccer tournament showed why it was rewarded with that placement.
Boulder (16-0) scored four goals in each half to dispatch of No. 31 Rampart (5-9-2).
The Rams, the second place team from the Colorado Springs Metro League, trailed 4-0 before notching their only goal.
Pueblo East 27, Harrison 21
At Pueblo: Aumiere Shedrick caught an 80-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter one play after Harrison (6-3, 3-1 3A South Central) blocked an East field-goal attempt to tie the game at 21 and put a scare into two-time defending 3A champion Pueblo East (8-1, 4-0).
But East, ranked No. 2 in the RPI, answered with a touchdown with 2:32 to play and held off the Panthers.
Harrison, ranked 25th, trailed 21-6 going into the fourth, yet rallied to tie the game.
The win gives East the league title and an automatic playoff berth.
The top 16 teams, including league champions, qualify for the postseason. The regular season finishes next week.
Discovery Canyon 49, Mitchell 14
At District 20 Stadium: Discovery Canyon (9-0, 4-0 3A Southern League), the top-ranked team in 3A according to RPI, continued its romp through league play, cruising past No. 35 Mitchell (3-6, 1-3).
The Thunder led 42-0 before halftime and started a running clock due to the mercy rule.
The Thunder have outscored league opponents 158-68.
Erie 3, Discovery Canyon 2
At Erie: Discovery Canyon (7-12) blew a two-set lead to fall to Erie (15-8).
Erie, led by Mya Michaelson's 23 kills, won 24-26, 16-25, 25-15, 25-12, 16-14.
Mesa Ridge 3, Woodland Park 1
At Mesa Ridge: Mesa Ridge (8-11, 5-3 4A Colorado Springs Metro League) held off a late charge from Woodland Park (11-12, 4-4) to finish league play with a 25-16, 25-9, 21-25, 25-23 victory.
Freshmen Sarah Garner and Delaney Battin each had nine kills for the Panthers.
Mesa Ridge did not submit stats when this edition went to press.
TCA 3, Harrison 0
At Harrison: League champion The Classical Academy (13-7, 8-0 4A CSML) swept Harrison (2-21, 1-7) to finish league play with the postseason right around the corner.
Behind kills from nine players, the Titans won 25-23, 25-23, 25-18.
Sarah Warnament led the Titans with eight kills.
