Tuesday's prep roundup: Doherty stays unbeaten in league by holding off F-FC in double-OT

Doherty 64, Fountain-Fort Carson 59, 2OT

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Doherty blew a late four-point lead in the final 34 seconds of regulation, then overcame a four-point deficit in overtime before scoring the only five points of the second extra period as the Spartans (13-3, 6-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) held off Fountain-Fort Carson.

The win extended Doherty's league winning streak to 20 games dating to the 2015-16 season.

Keyshawn Maltbia nailed a season-best five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 26 points for the Trojans (6-10, 3-2), who trailed 15-5 at the end of the first quarter but eventually rallied to take a 33-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Rampart 68, Coronado 50

At Rampart: Xavier Johnson had a team-high 21 points on 9-for-9 shooting, Jack McReynolds added 16 points, and Rampart used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to pull away from Coronado (4-13, 1-5 5A CS Metro).

Dawson Carper added 15 points for Rampart (12-5, 4-2), which trailed 19-18 early in the second quarter before a turning the game around. By halftime, the Rams held a 32-21 lead and held a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Widefield 80, Canon City 55

At Widefield: Tre Pierre scored 22 points, TJ Davis added 20, and Widefield took command after a 33-point second quarter to rout Canon City.

Tay Williams chipped in with 13 for the Gladiators (11-4, 6-2 4A CS Metro), whose second-quarter 33-21 run turned a tie game into a 12-point halftime lead.

Gabe Rall led Canon City (2-12, 2-5) with 19 points.

Mesa Ridge 73, Sierra 64

At Mesa Ridge: D.J. King led three scorers in double figures with 17 points, for the Grizzlies' ninth straight win.

Devon Ricketts and Daevion Kinnard added 16 and 10 points, respectively, for Mesa Ridge, which overcame a slow start as the Grizzlies managed just seven points in the first quarter and trailed by five.

Mesa Ridge responded with a 22-point second quarter and took a 29-26 lead into intermission.

Sierra's Derrian Reed led all scorers with 27 points.


Rampart 196, Air Academy 113

At Rampart: Seniors Catriona (200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly) and Allana (50 and 100 free) Clarke took first in two events, as did junior Edenna Chen (500 free and 100 breaststroke) to highlight the day for Rampart, which swept all 12 events and remained undefeated through seven duals. All three also led two relays squads to victories.

Also, Molly Smith (200 free), Gabrielle Peltier (diving) and Lindsey Immel (100 back) had individual wins for the Rams.

Coronado 127, Fountain-Fort Carson 53

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Mia Shaeffer touched first in the 500 free and 100 breaststroke, and teammate Kaytlynn Hall recorded individual victories in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley to pace Coronado.

The Cougars claimed first in all nine individual events and two of three relays. F-FC started the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay.

Leanne Telle (200 freestyle), Lindsey Murray (50 free), Ariana Bower (diving), Erin Field (100 free) and Lindsey Dwinell (100 backstroke) also took first for Coronado.


Liberty 50, Vista Ridge 35

At Liberty: Jayda Lyon and Malea Lopez scored 12 points apiece to lead Liberty, which led from the start in a nonleague win over Vista Ridge.

Phylicia Bacon added 10 points for the Lancers (12-4), who led 14-3 after one quarter and stretched that advantage to 22-10 at halftime and 35-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kaley Tubbs led Vista Ridge (7-8) with 18 points, including a 10-of-12 performance from the free-throw line.

Doherty 54, Fountain-Fort Carson 52

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Brionna McBride led all scorers with 17 points. Caylee DeWitt scored the eventual game-winner with just under one minute left and followed with a block on the ensuing possession as Doherty stayed undefeated in league play.

Mckiaa Minniss added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans (13-3, 6-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League), who ran their winning streak to nine games.

Samiyah Worrell had 16 points to lead Fountain-Fort Carson (9-7, 3-2).

Mesa Ridge 52, Sierra 40

At Sierra: Serin Dunne scored 12 points, and Ashley Bowen and Chloe Welch added 10 each to help Mesa Ridge pull away from Sierra to push the Grizzlies' win streak to nine games.

Welch also grabbed 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies (11-2, 7-0 4A CS Metro), who outscored the Stallions (9-6, 5-3) by a 32-14 margin between the second and third quarters.

The teams were tied at 11 after one quarter.
