Tuesday's prep roundup: Palmer Ridge qualifies four for state boys' golf

At Boomerang Golf Course: Palmer Ridge took second at the Greeley regional and qualified all four golfers to the state tournament.

Trey Jones tied for sixth at 5-over-par 77 to lead the Bears. Lance Phillips was 12th (79), Elijah Harp tied for 13th (80) and Drew Laake was 17th (81).

Mountain View's Wes Weber won in a playoff at 70 and Thompson Valley claimed the team title.



Pine Creek 15, Liberty 3, 5 innings

At Liberty: Pine Creek (8-6, 7-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) kept its slim lead in the league standings with its big-time win over Liberty (3-10, 2-4).

Leah Passafiume had four hits and drove in two runs, and Gerilyn Martinez also had two RBIs for the Eagles, who have a half-game lead over Rampart in the chase for a league title.

Brooke Linden and Laura Clay combined for five innings in the win and did not allow an extra-base hit.

Morgan Ward had two hits for the Lancers.

Fountain-Fort Carson 15, Palmer 1

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Ashley Hopkins and Mackenzie Cordova each had three RBIs as Fountain-Fort Carson (8-7, 6-2) beat Palmer (2-13, 0-8) for its second straight win.

Alyssa Steele allowed three hits and one unearned run in five innings for the Trojans. She struck out three and walked one.

Shelby Pick had two of the Terrors' three hits.

The Trojans sit third in league, 1 ½ games back of leader Pine Creek.

Vista Ridge 15, Sand Creek 0, 4 innings

At Vista Ridge: Katey Kelly hit a home run and drove in four runs as Vista Ridge (10-5, 3-1 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference) beat Sand Creek (2-11, 0-4) for its fifth straight win.

Kaylin Cruz drove in three runs for the Wolves, who scored 11 times in the first inning and added four in the third.

Juliette Brown doubled for one of the Scorpions' four hits.

Mesa Ridge 18, Mitchell 3, 4 innings

At Mesa Ridge: Elena Reed homered and drove in three runs as Mesa Ridge (10-3, 4-0 4A CSML) beat Mitchell (2-13, 1-3) in four innings.

Aubree Krupp, Breanna Compton, Ariadna Martinez and Rose Towne each had two RBIs in the win.

The Grizzlies were up 3-0 before a 15-run burst in the third to go up 18-0. Amadee Zwick-Medina drove in a run as part of Mitchell's three-run fourth.

St. Mary's 15, The Classical Academy 0, 4 innings

At TCA: Lana DeBakey, Peyton Richter and Cassidy Sorensen each had three hits and drove in two runs as St. Mary's (8-5) beat TCA (2-12) for its fifth straight win.

Richter also threw a two-hitter on the mound and struck out nine, and Mackenzie Pepper added her first four-hit game of the season for the Pirates.

The Titans have lost 10 in a row.



Air Academy 4, Thompson Valley 2

At Air Academy: Luke Louthan had a goal and assisted on the other three as Air Academy (7-0) beat Thompson Valley to stay perfect on the season.

Kristian Hooker, Aiden Schwenke and Deane Swickard also scored for the Kadets. Thomas Beatty had 10 saves.

Air Academy has outscored the opposition 30-9 this season.

Sand Creek 8, Canon City 0

At Sand Creek: Alan Bautista had his second three-goal game of the season as Sand Creek (7-0) blew past Canon City (2-3).

Garrett Kramer added two goals to give him a state-best 16 on the year, as well as two assists for the Scorpions, who have outscored the opposition 56-6 through seven games. Jesse Bridge had a goal and an assist.

Liberty 4, Bear Creek 0

At Liberty: Ryan Benitez ended a five-game scoring drought with two goals as Liberty (4-3-1) beat Bear Creek for its second straight win.

Brandon Shaughnessy and Jesse Boyd also scored for the Lancers, and Nicholas Kuykendall made two saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

Manitou Springs 2, James Irwin 1, OT

At Manitou Springs: Cullen Cote had a goal and an assist, Jezreal Sommers also scored, and Manitou Springs (6-1) beat James Irwin (5-1) in extra time.

The Mustangs won in the eighth minute of OT.

Zach Talbot made nine saves in the win.

The Jaguars allowed a goal for just the third time this season.

Widefield 1, Coronado 0

At Coronado: Widefield (2-4) beat Coronado (3-4) for its second win in a row.

Kayden Bradley stopped nine shots in the loss.

Discovery 2, Harrison 0

At Discovery Canyon: Brendan Byrnes had a goal and an assist, leading Discovery Canyon (2-1-1) past Harrison (2-3-1).

Forrest Van Iwaarden also scored and Cory Gurnett made three saves for his second shutout of the season.



Lewis-Palmer 3, Rampart 0

At Lewis-Palmer: The Rangers (9-0) beat Rampart (2-3) to extend its winning streak to 39, dating back to the 2015 consolation finals.

Kessandra Krutsinger had nine kills and Jadie DeLange added another eight for L-P in the 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 victory. McKenna Sciacca had 15 digs and 36 assists.

The Rangers have dropped only one of their 24 sets this season.

Palmer Ridge 3, Liberty 1

At Palmer Ridge: Freshman Mac Russ had 16 kills and junior Summer Reflogal added another 12 as Palmer Ridge (10-1) beat Liberty (3-2) 25-18, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17.

Fellow-freshman Grace McIntosh added seven kills and 47 assists in the win. The Bears have won five straight in what has been an impressive start by a young squad.

The Classical Academy 3, Mesa Ridge 0

At TCA: Raegan Bervig had nine kills and eight digs, leading TCA (5-5) past Mesa Ridge (3-4) 25-12, 25-16, 25-18.

Autumn Boyles had six kills and Olivia Jacobsen had five for the Titans, who have won three straight. Lexi Wilcox had three kills and four aces.

Manitou Springs 3, James Irwin 0

At Manitou Springs: McKayla Cully had 12 kills and eight aces as Manitou Springs (5-5, 3-1 3A Tri-Peaks) beat James Irwin (3-8, 0-5).

Kylie Middleton added six kills and Abbie Boren had six aces in the win.

Widefield 3, Falcon 1

At Falcon: Mallory Hutchison had 15 kills and five aces, leading Widefield (7-3) past Falcon (4-4) 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13.

Taylor Blackwell added 14 kills and Kiri Carmody had four aces in the win.



Cheyenne Mountain 5, Air Academy 2

At Cheyenne Mountain: Joey Geisz beat Josh Voss 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles match, and Cheyenne Mountain (7-2) went on to sweep doubles play as it beat Air Academy (6-5) in the rivalry dual.

No. 2 singles player Connor Campbell and No. 3 Harry Huthoefer grinded out three-set victories for the Kadets. Huthoefer, in a marathon match, beat Christian Ridings 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

Palmer 7, Fountain-Fort Carson 0

At Palmer: Alfayad Khan beat Evan Bertrand 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match as Palmer (2-4, 2-2 5A CSML) swept Fountain-Fort Carson (1-6, 0-4).

No. 2 singles player Finn Gullickson and No. 3 Charlie Dickey also won in straight sets for the Terrors.



Cherry Creek 2, Liberty 0

At Stutler Bowl Stadium: Christina Jensen stopped six shots, but Liberty (1-6) couldn't score against Cherry Creek (4-1-1).

Last week, the Lancers beat Smoky Hill 6-0 for their first win of the season.
