Tuesday's prep roundup: Rampart, Coronado golfers qualify for boys' state



5A Central Region

At City Park Golf Course: Cameron Como's 3-over 75 and Steven Roschke's 78 were good enough to qualify for state as Rampart took fifth in the region.

Luke Travins shot a 76 to qualify for Coronado.

Highlands Ranch's Kyle Pearson shot a 68 to win the region.

Valor Christian Invitational

At Plum Creek Golf Club: Two 4A contenders squared off in a preview of the state golf tournament.

Valor Christian won its own invite with 231 points and Discovery Canyon took second with 233.

A day after winning 4A Region 1, Hayden Fry took fifth (4-over 76), Owen Pasvogel tied for seventh (78) and Luke Trujillo was 13th (79) for the Thunder.

Fairview’s Daniel Pearson won the invite a 66.


Cheyenne Mountain 3, Pine Creek 2

At Cheyenne Mountain: Casey Ahrendsen had 22 kills as the 4A Indians (4-3) rallied to beat 5A Pine Creek (7-4) 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-8.

"Casey was great tonight," Cheyenne Mountain coach David Barkley said.

Cayla Owen and Maddie Brown each added 15 digs for Cheyenne Mountain, which lost to the Eagles 3-0 in the Eaglecrest Tournament four days ago.

Pine Creek took a 2-1 lead before the Indians responded with a strong fourth and fifth set.

Lewis-Palmer 3, Rampart 0

At Rampart: Michaela Putnicki and Lydia Bartalo each had nine kills and eight digs as Lewis-Palmer (10-0) beat Rampart (6-4) 25-16, 25-19, 25-20. Gianna Bartalo added 13 digs and four aces for the Rangers.

Taylor Sibert had five kills and eight digs for the Rams.

St. Mary’s 3, Colorado Springs School 0

At CSS: Jackie Delfeld had 18 kills and 15 digs as St. Mary’s (9-2) beat CSS (7-2) 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.

Emily Wilcox had six kills and four aces for the Pirates. Emily Broerman had 34 digs.

Sierra 3, Thornton 1

At Sierra: Gya’ni Sami had 14 kills, two aces and 24 digs as Sierra (5-4) beat Thornton (1-10) 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18.

Four players had more 14 or more digs for the Stallions.

Palmer Ridge 3, Liberty 0

At Liberty:  Jenna McGann had 15 kills as Palmer Ridge beat Liberty 25-19, 25-15, 26-24.

Erin Ende had eight kills for the Lancers.


Liberty 9, Pine Creek 3

At Pine Creek: Jordan Cordrey struck out eight and allowed three unearned runs as Liberty (6-6, 4-1 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) beat Pine Creek (7-6-1, 6-1) to stay in the hunt for a league title.

Laneia Lundquist drove in two runs for Liberty. Gabrielle Hoyt and Denise Villalba each had three hits.

The Lancers, Eagles and Fountain-Fort Carson (9-5, 6-1) all have one loss in league with two weeks left in the regular season.

Rampart 11, Doherty 1

At Doherty: Megan Schrage struck out 10 and allowed one unearned run in seven innings as Rampart (7-6, 5-2 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) beat Doherty (4-10, 3-7).

Schrage (6-5) scatted four hits and didn't allow a run until the seventh.

Kate Frederick and Lenee Gamboa each had two RBIs for the Rams. Shelby Shepherd and Brittany Head both had three hits.

Vista Ridge 20, Sand Creek 5

At Sand Creek: Chloe Ewing had four hits and drove in four runs as Vista Ridge (8-6-1, 3-1 4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference) beat Sand Creek (3-9, 0-4) for its fifth straight win.

Alexis Silvey homered and had three RBIs for the Wolves. Midori Williams and Hannah Schulman each drove in two runs.

Mesa Ridge 24, Mitchell 5, 4 innings

At Mitchell: Hayley Fox doubled and tripled and drove in four runs as Mesa Ridge (5-8, 3-1 4A CSML) crushed Mitchell (2-12, 1-3) in a shortened game.

Star Frische had two triples and three RBIs for the Grizzlies. Elena Reed had three hits and drove in three runs.

Nykkie Aniasco had an RBI and scored a run for the Marauders.

TCA 6, St. Mary’s 1

At St. Mary’s: Emma Johnson allowed one run in seven innings as TCA beat St. Mary’s.

Johnson gave up six hits and struck out six. Taylor Yarbrough added two RBIs for the Titans.

Morgan Trechter had two hits for the Pirates.


Pine Creek 7, Rampart 0

At Pine Creek: Bradley Ma beat Bryant So 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles as the Eagles beat Rampart for their third straight dual win. Coulten Davis didn't lose a game in No. 2 singles and Luke Miller won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2 for Pine Creek. The doubles followed suit and all won in straight sets.


TCA 6, Palmer Ridge 1

At Don Breese Stadium: Titus Grant scored three times and had an assist as TCA (4-2) handed Palmer Ridge (5-1) its first loss.

Jaden Borja added two goals and two assists for the Titans, who had 28 shots. Jeremy Baldes had a goal and two assists. Eldar Krause had a goal on Palmer Ridge's lone shot on net in the second half.

Coronado 2, Widefield 1

At Widefield: Travis Rader made 30 saves, but it wasn't enough as Widefield (1-5) fell to Coronado (4-4).

Kody Scholl scored and Alexander Ortiz-Ochoa had the assist for the Gladiators.

Air Academy 1, Thompson Valley 0, 2OT

At Thompson Valley: Andrew Hiester scored in double overtime. The Kadets fell to Pine Creek 2-1 for their first loss of the season a week ago.

Cherry Creek 4, Pine Creek 2

At Cherry Creek: Zach Mason and Christian Seaquist scored, but Pine Creek (4-4) fell to Cherry Creek (5-0). Colin Welge made seven saves for the Eagles.

Sand Creek 5, Canon City 0

At Canon City: Jayden Austin and Alex Le Blanc Quaney had a goal and an assist as Sand Creek (6-1) shut out Canon City (2-4).

Keeper Brady Sides recorded his second shutout win of the season.
