Wednesday's prep roundup: Discovery Canyon picks up wins in softball, boys' soccer

SOFTBALL

Lewis-Palmer 15, Sand Creek 4

At Sand Creek: The Rangers (6-9, 1-2) jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back in the 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference contest. The Scorpions (2-9, 0-2) cut the lead to 9-4 in the third, but Lewis-Palmer scored six more runs in the fifth to earn its first win in seven games.

Discovery Canyon 9, Falcon 3

At Discovery Canyon: The Thunder (8-2-1, 2-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning of the PPAC game  They added four more runs in their final two innings to capture their fourth win in the last five games. Discovery Canyon’s Genesis Andino was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Amber Rees was 3 for 3 with an RBI, and Corah Price pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts. The Falcons dropped to 4-6 overall, and 1-2 in the conference.

Air Academy 7, Palmer Ridge 0

At Palmer Ridge: Air Academy (7-4, 3-0) stayed atop the PPAC standings after they exploded for a five-run seventh inning. Palmer Ridge fell to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Air Academy’s Karsen Romines was 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs scored, and teammate Cassidy Horn was 2-for-4. Horn was also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.

Vista Ridge 16, Cheyenne Mountain 2

At Cheyenne Mountain: Alexis Silvey went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Kaitlyn Lord was 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Wolves (6-5, 1-1) in the PPAC game. Chloe Ewing earned the win in the circle against the Indians, finishing with nine strikeouts in four innings. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for Cheyenne Mountain, who dropped to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

BOYS' SOCCER

Discovery Canyon 10, Pueblo Central 0

At Dutch Clark Stadium: The Thunder scored nine goals in the first half to easily take the nonconference game. Discovery Canyon improved to 2-1-1, while Pueblo Central dropped to 0-5.

Pueblo South 3, Fountain-Fort Carson 0

At Fountain-Fort Carson: The Trojans allowed three goals in the second half in the nonconference game to drop to 2-5-1. Pueblo South boosted its record to 4-3.

TCA 4, Valor Christian 0

At TCA: The Titans (3-1) scored three goals in the first half of the nonconference game.

VOLLEYBALL

Coronado 3, Air Academy 0

At Air Academy: Jaelyn Hershberger led with eight kills and Val Harvey and Mallory Brown added five kills apiece as the 8-2 Cougars dominated 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 in the nonconference match. Air Academy dropped to 4-4.
