Wednesday's prep roundup: Trevor Kramer leads Fountain-Fort Carson past Coronado in baseball

Highlights from Wednesday's high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.


Fountain-Fort Carson 5, Coronado 3

At Fountain-Fort Carson: At the plate, Trevor Kramer doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run. On the mound, he threw a complete game, striking out six, to help Pikes Peak region 5A No. 3 Fountain-Fort Carson (4-4, 1-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) defeat No. 2 Coronado (4-2, 0-1) in both teams' league opener Wednesday.

Kramer held the Cougars to five hits and three walks, while giving up three earned runs.

But the Trojans scored a run in each of the first three innings and then solidified the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

F-FC pounded out 12 hits.



Rampart 91, Palmer 69

At Palmer: Rampart (3-0, 3-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) won eight of 12 events, including the 200-yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, to beat host Palmer (0-3, 0-3) in a dual league meet.

Drew Bennett won both the individual medley and the 100 backstroke for Rampart. He was also part of the 200 freestyle relay-winning team.

Palmer won the diving competition and the final three events, including the 400 free relay.

Rampart 4, Palmer 3

At Palmer: Rampart No. 1 doubles team of Samantha Brummitt and Pajsoua Lo held off Palmer's Abby Timmins and Annaliese Bronner 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to help the Rams edge Palmer in a 5A Colorado Springs Metro League match.

The Rams also took two of three matches in singles, including No. 3 Grace Qiu's 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Palmer's Bailey Downs and Leslie Estrada won their No. 4 doubles match 6-1, 6-1.

Coronado 6, Liberty 1

At Coronado: Coronado swept singles play and took three doubles matches to cruise past Liberty in a league match.

Sophomore Carlie Kassner outlasted Kyla Waguespack in the No. 3 singles match with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 victory for the Cougars.

Savannah Leifer and Bethany Heitland won their Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively, in straight sets. The Cougars also won all three of their doubles matches in straight sets.

Liberty's No. 2 doubles team of Emily McFadden and Kennedy Garnhart held off Coronado's Sydney Coen and Emma Sartain 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 for the Lancers' lone win.



St. Mary's 10, Trinidad 0

At St. Mary's: Marisa Shigio scored three goals and Isabella Thomas added two to lead St. Mary's (3-2, 1-0 3A Region 1) past Trinidad (1-2-1, 0-1) in a game shortened by the 10-goal rule.

Katie Fowler added a goal and two assists for the Pirates.

Grandview 3, Liberty 0

At Liberty: Defending 5A state champion Grandview (2-2) scored a goal in the first half and two in the second to defeat Pikes Peak region 5A No. 3 Liberty (2-4).



Lewis-Palmer 9, Castle View 8

At Lewis-Palmer: Pikes Peak region No. 2 Lewis-Palmer (5-1) jumped to a 5-1 lead by halftime and held off a rally from Castle View (2-4).

The Rangers pushed their lead to 9-4 after three quarters but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Sabrecats scored four times.

No stats were reported by the Rangers.
