OFFENSE
Quarterback
TJ Davis, Widefield, sr. — Davis emerged as one of the area’s best dual-threat quarterbacks, racking up 1,502 passing yards with a .502 completion percentage, and also led the team in rushing with 688 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He also threw for 17 scores.
Wide receiver
Ju Wan Edgerton, Mesa Ridge, sr. — Edgerton had 802 receiving yards in the regular season, and averaged more than 20 yards per catch. He scored 12 touchdowns.
Ryan O’Connell, Liberty, sr. — O’Connell was the only area wide receiver to reach 1,000 receiving yards in the regular season. He finished with 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns.
A year ago football coach Rob Royer led Rampart to its first league championship since 2001.
Running back
Julian Cooks, Doherty, sr. — Cooks exploded onto the scene with 300 rushing yards in the Spartans’ season opener, and didn’t stop there. He finished just as strong with 1,507 yards and 19 touchdowns in the regular season.
David Moore III, Pine Creek, so. — For the second year in a row, Moore surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in the regular season - and he’s only a sophomore. He had 1,205 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns as he led the Eagles to a 9-1 regular season campaign.
Tight end
Brock Stinson, Coronado, sr. — Stinson was a dual-threat for the Cougars with 403 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He also had 70 tackles at linebacker.
Offensive line
Myles Carter, Rampart, sr — Carter helped the Rams become one of the most productive rushing offenses in the Pikes Peak region. The Rams had nearly 4,000 yards rushing. Carter also aided the Rams on defense with 12 tackles, two sacks and seven QB hurries.
Marshal Ehrlin, Rampart, jr. — The Rams' 6-foot-4, 215-pound lineman helped his team to its second straight league title as the offense put up nearly 4,000 yards and 325 points in the regular season. He also had 36 tackles and 3.5 sacks on the defensive line.
Nick Gossage, Liberty, sr. —The Lancers’ 6-foot-4, 295 pound guard anchored the offensive line which opened the gates for more than 3,200 yards of offense. Gossage was a dual-threat for Liberty and also had 61 tackles, including six for a loss at tackles.
Chris Midkiff, Air Academy, jr. — Midkiff opened the door for one of the area’s top running backs, and a rushing game that put up more than 2,000 yards. The senior guard also had four receptions for 92 receiving yards.
Sam Reed, Widefield, sr. — Reed took on the challenge of anchoring a young offensive line, and built a core which allowed its well-balanced offense to rack up nearly 3,000 yards. Reed was also third on the team in tackles with 57, and 15 for a loss.
Athlete
Jaylen Thomas, Vista Ridge, sr. — After moving from running back, to quarterback, Thomas was Vista Ridge’s most valuable offensive threat. He racked up 647 passing yards and a respectable .589 pass completion percentage, threw for 10 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also led the team with 971 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground; 286 receiving yards, and 175 return yards.
DEFENSE
Defensive back
Jared Behm, Rampart, sr. — Behm, had 61 tackles including four for a loss and a sack. He defended five passes, recovered a fumble and blocked a punt in his senior campaign.
Xavier Hill, Pine Creek, sr. — On the road to another state championship appearance, Hill was key in keeping opposing teams off the board. Hill was stellar in the secondary and pulled down six interceptions, blocked five passes and two fumble recoveries. He also racked up 70 total tackles.
John Hubbard-Johnson, Mesa Ridge, sr. — Hubbard-Johnson had 61 total tackles and two interception returns for touchdowns. He also had 872 total yards on offense - which includes 846 yards on the ground.
Troyer Morse, Air Academy, sr. — Morse had three interceptions, caused three fumbles and broke up 13 passes. He also racked up 52 tackles, including 10 for a loss with two sacks.
Linebacker
Brady Badwound, Air Academy, jr. — Badwound had 96 total tackles for the Kadets, including nine for a loss and four sacks.
Carter Bussone, Vista Ridge, jr. — Bussone finished seventh in the state in tackles, and was the top defensive threat in the Pikes Peak region with 144 total tackles. He had 17 for a loss and five sacks.
Sam Miller, Pine Creek, jr. — Miller spearheaded the Pine Creek defense with 79 total tackles including nine for a loss and also had three sacks.
Jarren Sly, Fountain-Fort Carson, sr. — Sly had 96 total tackles. He also had an interception and had 153 receiving yards.
Defensive line
Domonick Fini, Mesa Ridge, sr. — Fini broke virtually every Grizzly defensive record in 2017, recording 67 total tackles, including 31 tackles for a loss. He had 10 sacks.
Christian Louis, Pine Creek, sr. — Louis had 46 total tackles, including eight for a loss.
Rylee Ollivierre, Air Academy, sr. — Ollivierre had 78 total tackles, including 11 for a loss, and 14 sacks.
Isaak Rolfe, Pine Creek, sr. — Rolfe had 58 total tackles and was a major contributor on one of the area’s best defenses which allowed just over six points per game on average.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Punter
John Weary, Pine Creek, sr. — Although he did not have to punt often - he averaged less than three punts per game - Weary averaged 41.2 yards per punt. His longest was 68 yards and pinned 10 punts in the 20.
Place kicker
Tristan Widic, Mesa Ridge, sr. — Widic, who is also a standout on the Mesa Ridge soccer team was near perfect on point-after attempts, clearing 36 of 37 in his senior campaign. He also made 5-of-5 field goal attempts. His longest attempt was for 33 yards.
Returner
James LaCerte, Cheyenne Mountain, so. —The sophomore had 443 return yards, averaging 70 return yards per game, and 24.8 per return. He had two returns for 50 yards or more.
