A man has been hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds and a suspect is on the run following a shooting on a hiking and biking trail Sunday evening, according to Colorado Springs police.

The assault took place at about 7:15 p.m., on the Greenway Trail near Dorchester Park, under the Tejon Bridge, police said.

Officers responded to numerous calls about a shooting in the area and found a male suffering from “multiple” gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, officials said.

The suspect was not at the scene when responders arrived, but witnesses described a male in his mid-30s with brown hair and was wearing dark clothing.

“Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to report it to the police,” officials said.
